Picture this…. a world where no person is judged by their outward appearance. Not realistic. I understand. body image. It is a hard topic to talk about but a very prevalent one in the society we live in today. Self-love and body image are things I’ve struggled with, still struggle with, and will continue to struggle with. Each day becomes easier when you allow your perspective to change from the worldly view.
Body image. Personally, I believe that body image is not a battle between your mind and your physical body. It is a battle between the way society tells you to view your body versus how you actually view your body. People are always looking for ways to enhance their beauty physically. Our mind is constantly being filled with other people's opinions on how much you should weigh, the number of calories you should eat, and what your outward appearance should look like. Well guess what?? YOU get to decide whether or not to believe those lies. Our bodies were made to be DIFFERENT! Relating back to my last post, WE ARE ALL ONE! The human mind is becoming so fixated on the appearance right in front of us that we forget to look below the surface at who people really are. We are dehumanizing ourselves by being our worst and hardest critic.
Working out, eating healthy, and carrying for your body in a physical way should come from a mentality of “I do this so I am my best self” not “I HAVE to do this or I will be/look/feel a certain way”. The thoughts that you tell yourself lead to action and action leads to results. Your thoughts are directly leading to the results you want. By comparing who you were made to be with others and society in general, kills the results you want. All bodies are special and each holds purpose, so treat your body as well as you treat someone you love. Gaining confidence in who you are and what your body looks like is the most freeing experience. Knowing that you have this appearance and you are proud of your life, the way you look, and most importantly the way you feel. The more you shift your thoughts from what you are “lacking” to gratitude will get you the results you want in a healthy way!
Look at your hands, they have held so many things. Look at your belly, it has been full of some of your favorite foods. Look at your legs, they have held you up even when you didn’t think you could stand any longer. Look at your eyes, they have so many beautiful things. Your body has been there for you since day 1.
Have some grace with yourself. You and your body are far more powerful than you can imagine. Be grateful for the body you have and what it has gotten you through. Your body is made to carry you through this messy life. It will be with you through the best of times in your life and some of the “not so great” times. Love your body because it loves you, but always remember that you are more than just a body! #normalizeNORMALbodies
